This is an old revision of the document!

The Old Wall

An ancient structure embedded in the current God-King's Palace. It is undoubtedly the ultimate remnant of a long-forgotten edifice, winding between the “Inner Palace” and the “Courtyard of Honors”, which successive architects chose not to demolish. Like most of the ancient Laelithian stones with obscure and improbable origins, those standing here would have many tales to tell… if they could speak! Between the Inner Palace and the Courtyard of Honors stands, on the ground floor, the “Gallery of Confidences”, a long structure adorned with finely crafted pillars, furnished with chests and armors of ancient deeds, ending in its southern part with an open apse leading to the “Oratory Chambers”, where “Courtiers remaking the world” endlessly deliberate, and the southern part of the Palace with its numerous rooms and barracks.

The blocks forming the Old Wall are massive, at least those at its base, and it is impossible to know where its foundations go, deep into the ground. Its average height is about 16 feet, or 5 to 6 meters depending on the location. The absence of coating contrasts with the rest of the Palace buildings, often covered in various luxurious materials and ornately decorated. It seems there was a reluctance to cover them with any kind of plaster; even the vegetation has always refrained from inserting itself into the joints or climbing along the structure, as if it wanted to respect its integrity. However, both in the Inner Palace Gardens and those of the Courtyard of Honors, this wall creates a unique microclimate, utilized for the cultivation of some rare plants.

Uses and Customs

The Old Wall has always been the scene of curious and sometimes licentious practices due to its presence in the aforementioned gardens and the “enclosures” it naturally defines. Some scholars attribute strange powers to these old stones, notably the ability to “reveal through dreams” events from the past that occurred nearby. To do this, the scholar must lie on the garden grass, as close to the Wall as possible, and fall asleep. Then, the old stones “speak of bygone things” to them. Some claim to have thus uncovered a few court intrigues or secrets, or conversely, learned how to scheme for some royal favors… More seriously, the Old Wall might possess some aspects of the Lithoracle within it…
