Old Ages Gate
The Old Ages Gate is an iconic structure of The Lakeshoe, the lowest and most lively Terrace of Laelith. This massive gate, resembling a miniature fortress, is the main access route to this part of the city. It is located at the end of The Lakeshoe, where the Caravans Roadway ends, and opens onto the Smugglers' Quay.
Standing nearly 10 meters high, the Old Ages Gate is made up of two solid wood doors, reinforced with steel plates and adorned with protective runes. These are supposed to repel evil spirits and protect the city from harmful influences. At night, the gate is closed and guarded by a handful of hardened soldiers, while during the day, it opens onto the hustle and bustle of the quay and the comings and goings of merchants, sailors, and travelers from all walks of life.
On either side of the gate, two protruding towers house a guard post and a barracks. These structures, although modest, are essential to the security of The Lakeshoe and the city as a whole. They are constantly occupied by vigilant guards, ready to respond at the slightest alert.
The Old Ages Gate, with its austere appearance and strategic position, is a strong symbol of The Lakeshoe. It embodies both the harshness of life in this district and the openness of Laelith to the outside world.
