The Captaincy
Perched in the upper part of an imposing building, The Captaincy proudly dominates The Fishery district, on The Lakeshoe. From there, the view of the lake is breathtaking, offering a spectacular panorama of the incessant ballet of fishing boats and merchant ships. The Temple of the Silver Fish occupies a part of the Offices of The Captaincy, where scribes and accountants take turns to register each ship larger than normal that docks.
The Captaincy is a place of control and regulation, where every cargo and every crew are carefully registered. A team of guards and tax collectors is always ready to be dispatched to the docks to assess the cargoes and collect the due taxes. The large registers, where all this information is recorded, are carefully preserved in The Captaincy.
The atmosphere there is studious and focused, every movement is precise and every word weighed. The Fishers who can afford to live in town often frequent The Captaincy, to settle their affairs or simply to seek a bit of human warmth. The others, the majority, remain on their boat, their home, their sales counter and their work tool.
The Captaincy is the beating heart of The Fishery, the place where all the activity of the district is concentrated. It is an essential place for anyone who wants to understand the workings of The Lakeshoe, and a mandatory stop for all those who live from fishing.
