A quiet, peaceful and airy neighborhood… Centered around Penitents Square and its guard post, bordered to the east by the Esplanade of the Skull and to the west by the cultural and commercial hustle and bustle of the Prosperity Terrace, it would be an ideal place to live. One would have to ignore the neighboring Temple, that of the Skull, which dominates it with all of its mass and darkness.

Mainly residing here, albeit temporarily, are pilgrims or priests of the Skull. There are also a number of squatters, euphemistically called “cash-strapped tourists”, whom the Rahel and the guards of the Indigo Penitents struggle to dislodge regularly.

It is strongly advised not to linger in this neighborhood as night approaches, or risk being abruptly taken and stuck for a few hours in the jails of the Indigo, whose hospitality is not their main virtue! Or worse! The risk is high of getting unwillingly involved in one of the many processions that go from Penitents Square to that of the Skull…
