====== Lady of the Cup & the Sword ======

Year 911. A certain Bernys, a handsome scholar, arrives in Laelith, determined to set foot on the rock of Cuss Castle and settle there. At first mocked for building a cabin there, he becomes the laughingstock of everyone when he started to repair the ruins of the castle. Yet today he is known as Bernys of Cuss Castle or even as "the master of the Pontoons".

The Pontoons are now one of the poles of attraction of Laelith. Its residents live from the windfall brought on by visitors, gambling bets and the foraging of the "ears of the lake", a mollusc that only grows on this rock.

Those who live in the midst of this anarchic development of boats, floating inns and wooden quays attached to the islet enjoy a big advantage: they pay no taxes to the city and recognize no authority other than Bernys. A very important aspect of the Pontoons - and substantial source of revenue for it - is betting.

This practice is forbidden everywhere else in Laelith (with the exception of the arenas of the Firebird), but tolerated here. Thanks to the bet-scratchers installed on the Pontoons and their clay tablets, it is possible to bet on anything and everything: Among other things on the fights of traniecs, another specialty of the islet.
