Pearl Guardhouse
The Pearl Guardhouse is the main surveillance point of The Terrace of the Mist, located in the Bath-Oh! district, at the Ladder of the same name. Led by the Rahel Vanthura, this imposing building is a typical example of the guard posts of Laelith. It overlooks the Ladder of the Bend and was designed by Mandala III. With its floor, it can even transform into a real fortress if necessary. A protected balcony above the door allows for effective defensive shots in case of attack, while all windows are equipped with bars for added security.
The Pearl enjoys a privileged position on the edge of the Terrace, which allows it to have rooms dug directly into the rampart. These rooms house strategic spaces such as the jails and the collectors' office. The other guard posts do not have this feature and have a different layout, often in the form of a tower. Some secondary posts may even not have these rooms, or have them in a reduced version.
The ground floor of the Pearl consists of several rooms, including a reception room with a counter and a railing to limit access, a Duty Room where taxes are collected, and a kitchen to prepare meals for the guards and any potential prisoners. The first floor houses a infirmary, a “luxury” jail for important prisoners, and the office of the Rahel, where the Chief of the post organizes patrols and receives important visitors.
The Pearl is also well equipped to face an attack, with defense reserves containing weapons, additional bolts for crossbows, as well as barrels of pitch and caltrops. An alarm system, composed of a Semaphore and balloons, allows for reinforcements to be called if needed. A guard specifically charged with watching these signals is located on The High Terrace to respond quickly to calls for help.
In short, the Pearl Guardhouse is an imposing and strategic building, ensuring the security of the Bath-Oh! district and The Terrace of the Mist.
