The Dove
Laelith's Minstrels Guild is organized in a rather original manner. It is made up of a mother house, the Haute Maison, and residences distributed in the other districts (one or two per terrace, depending on the importance given locally to music). All these annexes bear the name of a white plumage bird. They accommodate passing minstrels who wish to rest after several months of travel, and serve as a residence for two master musicians.
The minstrels of Laelith are nicknamed songforgers. The emblem of the guild, a lyre and a white bird's wing, on a blue background, is sewn on their right shoulder; it assures them a good welcome among civilized people. Indeed, not only do the singers bring joy and music to the most diverse places, from the tavern on the corner of the street to the furthest farm, but one of their important tasks is the Gift of news .
Communications between the six provinces and Laelith are rather difficult; few people know how to read and only the minstrels make a point of reporting what is happening in the rest of the world, giving news of friends or distant family, but also recounting the latest events related in the Salammatin. The songforger performs this service for free, generally in a public place such as a tavern or taberge, but it is fashionable to offer her food and drink, some services or objects she needs.
