The neighborhood obviously takes its name from the Great Emporium of Laelith. Located on the site of the ancient Flowers Market, and considerably expanded over the centuries, it sells all year round the products of local craftsmanship and agriculture from the surrounding area. A royal-divine edict prohibits the trade of raw materials in the Great Emporium, due to a monopoly granted to the terrace of the Hand That Crafts.

Many merchants and traders have settled in the neighborhood, to take advantage of the proximity of the Evil Bazaar, the true economic hub of the city. Their proverbial wealth makes the Market district the favorite playground of bands of thieves and rogues, most of them based in the nearby district of the Smoky Traboules.
