Formerly located near the Lazaret, the caravanserai is now situated outside the city walls, to the north of the barracks of the Corps of Protectors of the Holy City. It is a building with multiple functions: a stopover for caravaners traveling along the road that serves the northern shore of Lake Altalith; a place for the care of riding and pack animals; Warehouses for temporary or medium-term storage; an inn for travelers with dorms and individual rooms; a place for registering incoming or outgoing goods; Offices for currency exchange; interpreter services; etc.

The surroundings are always crowded, and a nomadic camp permanently borders the site with its tents and yurts intended to accommodate all those who cannot find accommodation within the walls.

Today, given the renewed importance of this access to the city, the place could perhaps become the nucleus of a new suburb.
