Gate of the Recluse

The Gate of the Recluse, located on the Soldiers Ramp in The Lakeshoe, is a unique structure in Laelith. This discreet and little-noticed door is nevertheless the entrance to a place of devotion and Sacrifice. It is marked with two crossed shinbones, a symbol of the Temple of the Skull, and pierced with a single small opening 2.50 m from the ground.

The Old Ages Gate is an iconic structure of The Lakeshoe, the lowest and most lively Terrace of Laelith. This massive gate, resembling a miniature fortress, is the main access route to this part of the city. It is located at the end of The Lakeshoe, where the Caravans Roadway ends, and opens onto the Smugglers' Quay.

At the heart of The Lakeshoe, The New Towers stand proudly, defying the neighborhood's gloom. These imposing structures are a striking contrast to the rest of The Lakeshoe, offering a spectacle of white stones and blue slate roofs. They are composed of The Three Towers, each reaching an impressive height, giving the inhabitants a panoramic view of the city and the lake.

The advent of Nin I launched the great project of the Northern Ramparts, focused on integrating the Military Quarters into the city by surrounding them with high stone walls, adorned with polished and multicolored shells.

The four imposing black granite buildings of the Barracks contrast with the relative whiteness of the walls. The 4,000 Protectors of The Holy City are quartered there. Stables, where the mounts of the cavalry of Laelith are housed and cared for, are attached…

This neighborhood once housed fishing families, living in poor, dirty shacks. It was razed, reorganized, and sanitized during the construction of the Bridge Nin I, to provide low-cost accommodation for the cohorts of carpenters, stonecutters, joiners, laborers, and other masons who were responsible for its realization.

This district gets its name from the old stables that once existed here, before the establishment of the Military Quarters and the construction of the Hippodrome on the edge of the city. This is still evidenced by the names of some of the roads that border it, such as Horses Street or Hoof Ladder. This is where the few places easily accessible by horse for travelers and merchants arriving via the Caravans Roadway and the Old Ages Gate are located.

The population of the Rock lives and works on boats moored to the pontoons. Unsurprisingly, the district gets its name from the Temple of the same name that stands in its center. This imposing black and austere building casts its ominous shadow over all the constructions that surround it.

The Temple itself resembles a roughly hewn sketch or a ruined building from which only a single dilapidated spire protrudes from the red marble dome, planted like a dagger in the midst of rubble.
