Lazaret Guardhouse
The Lazaret Guardhouse is an imposing building located on the terrace of the Hand That Crafts, at the end of Guards street. A true fortress, it stands proudly, dominating the urban landscape of Laelith. Its high grey stone walls, eroded by time and weather, bear witness to its long history and its primary function: to protect the city and its inhabitants.
Inside, the atmosphere is austere and solemn. The armory, where the guards train in the handling of weapons, is a place of discipline and rigor. The infirmary, with its two beds and shelves filled with bandages, herbs, and poultices, is a haven of care for the injured before their transfer to the Lazaret. The luxury jail, reserved for high-profile prisoners, testifies to the respect for the city's laws, even for the highest-ranking individuals. The office of the Rahel, the Chief of the post, is a comfortable room where important decisions are made.
But the Lazaret Guardhouse is not just a place of power and authority. It is also a place of passage, where travelers come to get their pass to enter the city. And sometimes, it is a place of detention, when administrative or other problems require the departure of pilgrims to be delayed.
In the end, the Lazaret Guardhouse is an symbolic place of Laelith, a symbol of its order and security, but also of its openness to the world and its ability to welcome travelers from all walks of life.
