Bishoff Establishments
The Bishoff Establishments, located at number 13 on Bone Bridge Ladder, in the Aldermen district on the Prosperity terrace, are an iconic institution in Laelith. This commercial building is dedicated to a unique service: the passage of death. This family-owned business, now run by Gilham Bishoff, perpetuates the ancestral burial rite of Laelith, which has fallen into disuse elsewhere in the city.
The establishment's facade, austere and solemn, inspires respect and tranquility. Inside, the atmosphere is filled with serenity and discretion. The bodies of the deceased are treated with the utmost care, embalmed, and wrapped in a painted silk sheet before being entrusted to the flowing waters of the Inlam, at the bottom of the Fault.
The Bishoff Establishments are known for the impeccable quality of their services, the discretion of their personnel, and the authenticity of their rituals. However, their rates, proportional to the quality of their services, limit the use of their services to the wealthy.
Despite the success of its business, the Bishoff family is also the theatre of personal dramas. Salia, the young wife of Gilham, languishes in this grand mansion, desperate for not being able to conceive. Every evening, she goes to drown her sorrow in the bars of Stones Ladder.
The Bishoff Establishments are a possible waypoint in the cycle of life in Laelith, a place where death is treated with respect and dignity.
