If you listen to the welcoming drunkards who haunt the counter of the “Twenty Years is Enough” tavern, eight cursed alleys articulate around Chancre-Day Square, like the tentacles of an octopus: Gloomy Pathway, the Slouched, the traboules and the corners that connect them, a whole labyrinth of alleys with their superstitions and adages, a maze where darkness reigns, devouring the flames of the lanterns and where it is not good to linger at night if you do not want to end up being the toy of the formidable blind gangs. Unless you find refuge in the middle of the Circus of Misfortune and its amputated clowns, all the way at the end of Toads ladder. And even then you would still have to hope you have enough talent for them to adopt you in your entirety…
